Where this file comes from
You get WebP when you save an image from a website in Chrome or Edge, download from a WordPress site or CDN that optimizes images, or export from some online design tools. Older editors, including some versions of Photoshop and Paint, often cannot open it.
What changes in the conversion
The WebP is decoded and saved losslessly as PNG at the same width and height.
- Kept: image dimensions and transparency.
- Converted: pixels are saved losslessly as PNG, and a color profile, if present, becomes sRGB.
- Dropped: EXIF/XMP metadata when present, and every frame after the first in an animated WebP.
If the source was a lossy WebP, the PNG will not look better, only larger. Use PNG when you need an editable, transparent or widely compatible file.

FAQ
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. If the WebP has transparent areas, the PNG keeps them, so logos and cutouts stay see-through. The report lists transparency under kept.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
WebP is usually compressed much harder than PNG. The PNG stores pixels losslessly, so it can be several times bigger. For a lossy WebP, the report warns you when the PNG is more than 1.5 times the original.
Will I get back quality that the WebP lost?
No. A lossy WebP has already discarded detail. The PNG preserves exactly what the WebP showed, with no further loss.
What happens to an animated WebP?
Only the first frame is saved, because PNG here is a single still image. The report says when animation was dropped.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
