How to convert JPG to PNG
- Choose or drop one or more JPG, JPEG or JFIF files.
- Wait for the conversion; there are no options to set.
- Download each PNG, or all of them in one ZIP.
Where this file comes from
JPG (also .jpeg or .jfif) is the default format for phone and camera photos, and for most pictures saved from websites, messaging apps and email attachments. Scanners and screenshot tools often produce it too.
What changes in the conversion
The picture is decoded and written again as a PNG at the same width and height, with no resizing. PNG is lossless, so nothing more is lost, but the file is usually much larger than the JPG.
- Kept: image dimensions.
- Converted: photos with an EXIF orientation flag are rotated upright, since the PNG has no such flag. CMYK JPEGs (common from print workflows) are converted to RGB, and an embedded color profile is converted to sRGB.
- Dropped: EXIF/XMP metadata (camera, date, location).
JPG has no transparency, so the PNG will not have any either.
Size limits and browser notes
- Accepts .jpg, .jpeg, .jfif files up to 50 MB each.
- You can convert several files at once; they download together as one ZIP.
- Everything runs in your browser, so very large files depend on your device's memory.
Works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. On iPhone and iPad, Safari limits images to about 16.7 megapixels, so very large photos may be refused.
FAQ
Will I lose quality converting JPG to PNG?
No further loss. The JPG is decoded once and saved losslessly as PNG, so the PNG matches what you saw in the JPG. It cannot restore detail the JPG compression already discarded.
Why is my PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, while JPG throws away detail to save space. Photos often grow several times in size. The report warns you when the PNG is more than 1.5 times the original.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque. Converting only changes the file type; it does not remove a background.
Is the location data in my photo kept?
No. EXIF and XMP metadata, including camera model, date and GPS location, is not written to the PNG. The report lists it as dropped when the JPG had any.
Can I convert many JPGs at once?
Yes. Drop several files and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. Each file can be up to 50 MB.
