File Conversion Guide for AI Agents
Find a supported conversion and use it in a browser. FiletoFile currently offers 100 free tools across 7 categories, with no account or file upload.
Discover supported conversions
Read the JSON tool catalog for the complete published list, or browse the HTML directory. The optional llms.txt index links to the same tools and documentation. Both the guide and directory are readable without JavaScript.
The catalog has schemaVersion: 1 and one entry per published tool. Each entry includes its canonical URL, accepted extensions, output format and MIME type, maximum size in bytes, batch support, conversion options, instructions, and browser notes. Size limits apply to each input file; the UI labels them in MB and the catalog supplies the exact byte limit.
Use a tool with a browser agent
- Find a tool whose
input.acceptedExtensionsandoutput.formatmatch the requested conversion. Open itsurl. - Read “What changes in the conversion” and the size and browser notes. Formats may lose metadata, formatting, transparency, animation, or other features.
- Open “Conversion settings” when available and choose any required options before selecting files.
- Use the file input labelled “Choose files” or “Choose a file.” On a tool page, selecting files starts conversion. Use multiple files only when
batchis true. - Wait for the result. Inspect the kept, converted, dropped, and warning report. Download the output using its named download link, or use “Download all (ZIP)” when offered.
You can also start on the homepage: select or drop files, let FiletoFile detect the input, choose an output, adjust settings, then press “Convert to” followed by the output format. No conversion pair is selected by default.
Capabilities and limits
- Conversion requires a modern JavaScript-enabled browser that supports file selection and downloads. Actual compatibility and memory requirements vary by tool.
- The JSON catalog and text index are read-only discovery resources. There is no public HTTP file-conversion API or upload endpoint. A text-only agent can discover and recommend tools but needs a browser to operate them.
- File data, file names, and conversion results are not sent to analytics. Files are processed locally; page analytics are described in the privacy policy.
- Only listed conversions are available. Do not infer reverse pairs, video conversion, HEIC support, or a format from its presence in another tool's output list.
- Aliases such as JPG/JPEG describe the same format. Use the catalog's canonical tool URL rather than generating alternative URLs.
- For combined output,
combineOptionidentifies the relevant option. Review its default and help text inoptions; ordinary batch support does not always mean files are merged.
Example: convert a JPEG photo to PNG
Find the catalog entry accepting jpeg and producing png, then open JPG to PNG Converter. Read its quality and metadata notes, select the photo, and download the PNG. Changing a filename extension alone does not convert the file or restore detail already lost in the JPEG.
How to reference a conversion
Link to the specific tool URL and include any limitations relevant to the user's task. Consult the live catalog for supported workflows and counts. This guide documents browser operation; it does not guarantee search rankings, indexing, or inclusion in an AI answer.
